Beauty & Blogging
It has been a crazy couple of weeks and so I have been totally absentee on the blogging side of things. I’ve definitely been trying products on the beauty and skincare end, so I will absolutely have some posts coming soon to be back on track 🙂
I was able to get my hands on a few of the beauty and skincare products from my September’s Most Wanted post with my Sephora gift card– the Anastasia Beverly Hills foundation and contour stick and the Marc Jacobs Blush being the highlights. I also tried samples of Sunday Riley’s Good Genes, Elizabeth and James Nirvana Rose, and Nest Dahlia and Vines. Good Genes was a super bust for me– two days of use left my skin way over-exfoliated with flaking and lots of red bumps 👎. It is a holy grail product for a lot of people but I think my skin was just too sensitive for it! I also really didn’t like Nirvana Rose at all– I smelled 100% musk and 0% rose or any sort of floral note. I liked Dahlia and Vines, but am still formulating a full opinion– it wasn’t love at first sniff, but very non-offensive to my nose. Always good to grab samples first for these types of products! Now that my skin has cleared up from the Good Genes sample incident, I feel like I can give the ABH Stick foundation a fair shot and start thinking about a review 😉
I also got to go to Sephora’s Holiday Preview event this month! It was on a Saturday morning in Buffalo, and they provided coffee and pastries while you got to peruse (and pre-purchase if you wanted) some of the holiday releases. As I think I’ve mentioned before, I have mixed feelings about holiday releases coming out as early as August and September (its kind of insane, really)…but I am always down for a good value set in products that I enjoy. Highlights at the event that I saw included the Bite “The Perfect Bite” Holiday Set (which I picked up–lip swatches anyone?), the Drunk Elephant AHA Moment set (which included the full sized glycolic serum + minis of their B Hydra serum and Vitamin C serum), and the Marc Jacobs Up All Night Lip Creme Collection. A lot of the people there were swarming for the giant Tarte and Too Faced holiday palettes, but I find that typically each year the quality of those are lacking relative to the regular palettes…plus the bulky packaging doesn’t personally appeal to me. What are your thoughts on early holiday releases? Anything you are really looking forward to?
What a month. So I just finished up my first OB/GYN rotation and I really enjoyed the field. However, I did a lot of traveling which made for a pretty insane month. I spent the first half of the month at my “home” hospital where I do most of my rotations, then I did a week and a half at a rural hospital about an hour and a half away…and then I spent the last few days of the rotation at a large academic center an hour from my rural site where I was exposed to a higher patient volume and some really interesting and higher-risk obstetric cases. Then, back to the home hospital this past Friday to take the shelf (our “end of rotation”exam). What a crazy time but I learned SO much! This experience absolutely validated my interest in OB/GYN, but I definitely need to see what else is out there (especially with primary care), before I make my choice.
Tomorrow, I get to start pediatrics which will be something totally new but hopefully fun as well. I am looking forward to helping take care of all the cute kiddos and excited to learn about a whole new field. I will also be washing and sanitizing my hands A TON because pediatrics in September/October = the beginnings of all the gross viruses from school season and I am determined to not get sick. My first week will be in the outpatient clinic setting, which I think will be a great place to start off. Wish me luck!
PS- Did you catch my interview with Accepted.com?
Oh, is it so good to be home with my person and my cat and my own bed and with a kitchen again. Two weeks of cup-o-noodles, easy mac, cereal, peanut butter sandwiches, and apples with some occasional hospital cafeteria food mixed in… it was like reverting to childhood and not in a good way. We went to the farmer’s market in Ithaca again yesterday and picked up some little potatoes, fresh rosemary, garlic, and have steak defrosting in the fridge. Yum! 👌 ❤️ Now that it is starting to get cooler, is anyone crock-potting? I would love to hear your favorite recipes!
I am also quite proud of the boyfriend for keeping the house together, the basil plant, and the cat alive while I was gone.
This week will be all about settling back in, and then I think we will be traveling back to New Jersey and NYC next weekend to visit family again…so back on the road! Maybe the perfect time to try out some of the more fun lipstick colors?
I hope you all have a lovely week!
