The Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Aqua Foundation and Maifanshi Moisture Foundations are cult favorites among makeup artists and those with dry skin. I recently ordered a set of samples from the Koh Gen Do website that included the Fair-Medium ranges of both shades. As you can see, the range is a bit limited for the fair range, pretty solid for the light/medium folks, and also very limited for darker skin tones. I didn’t order the darker samples knowing they wouldn’t fit my skin tone, but there really aren’t any options for those beyond a “medium” shade in the Aqua foundation. The Moisture foundation range includes three “deep” shades.
The Aqua foundation is lightweight and watery, and is similar in feeling to the MAC or Make Up For Ever Face & Body foundations. It dries down to a fairly dewy finish. The Moisture foundation feels more dense and definitely offers heavier more medium-full coverage depending on the amount applies. It dries down to a satin-matte finish.
The Aqua foundation shades are pictured on the left, and the Moisture foundation shades on the right.
You can find the sample pack as well as the full sized products on the Koh Gen Do website, or purchase through Nordstrom. Samples are $3.75 per foundation type with free shipping. The foundations run for $62 each, and the Aqua foundation also comes in a smaller size for $39 (at Nordstrom).
